FREE DOWNLOAD – Killer Kitsch
Back when Glasgow needed a good midweek club night with top tunes and brilliant DJs, four men answered the city’s prayers, launching KillerKitsch at Buff Club in the heart of the city early 2005.
Ross from BlagSound catches up with one-quarter of KK, Euan Neilson, to talk music, future plans and the most pressing of issues: socks!
Introduce Killer Kitsch- who and what are you?
We are Euan Neilson, David Sinclair, Duncan Harvey and David Brown. Four of us do the club night Killer Kitsch, although only Euan and Dave do the club in Edinburgh and when we play at other events. I do all the remixes and re edits…..yeah its confusing.
You’ve now been rocking ears for over 5 years now, what is your highlight in that period?
Starting the club for one and getting it to a reasonable level. But best moment was Rockness in 2008, headlined the Soco Social Tent, no idea how we ended up headlining but we tore the place apart.
We see you do remixes, if you had the chance to remix any tune in the world, who and why?
I’ve always wanted to remix Propaganda – Dr Mabuse‚Ķ‚Ķthey were a 80′s synth act produced by Trevor Horn and were on the same label as Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The track is quite dark, but it was way ahead of its time and I’ve never seen a remix of it, which has always perplexed me.
So, been going strong for a good few years now, what big plans have KK got coming up?
Lots and lots‚Ķ..We’ve got a new night called Konichiwa starting on the 18th September at the O2ABC, gonna be a different to Killer Kitsch at the Buff Club. Still gonna be dance music just maybe a bit more mainstream and commercial. And I’m just getting together some original material for my side project Warschauer. (Free Konichiwa Mixtape and Warschauer track to download below)
The street party planned for your 5th birthday celebration was cancelled by council, pissed about that, yeah?
Yeah‚Ķ..but its done now, I’ll think of something bigger for next year‚Ķ..that doesn’t involve dealing with the council
What do you think it is that keeps the crowds loyal to KK and keep coming back for more?
No idea‚Ķ..I’m amazed every week. I am convinced one week we will open the doors and no one will come.
What’s you favorite pair of socks?
Well i just got 8 pairs from Primark, i never buy anything from there, but i got dragged in by my girlfriend and i seen these nice socks‚Ķ..they have ‘Blam’ and ‘Kerpow’ written on them. ![]()
You chaps have booked some banging acts and DJ’s in the past, anyone we should be keeping an eye on?
I’d keep an eye on the acts we have booked, so Wafa, Reset!, Tom Staar etc etc. All very good producers.
Headlining festival tents these days also, challenge/daunting/no different?
I love it. I’m not too sure about Dave though. I am a bit more of an attention seeker than Dave maybe thats why.
Any track at the moment that you can’t actually help but keep dropping in every set?
I got this bootleg of Zombie Nation – Kernkraft 440 from the Reset! guys. Its by some Australians called ‘The Only’ and it gets played every night now… (Free download below)
