Lance Herbstrong – Meth Breakfast

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Kamal Soliman, Bill Sarver and Peter DiStefano are a production trio that specialize in Remixing, Dub, Dancehall, Electro and Downtempo. Now that sounds like a mixture of music I could sink my ear lugs into. For live shows they also have live percussionists joining them on stage to create a different sound to their production delights. The new album, Meth Breakfast, is a collection of re-rubbed Rock & Roll hits spanning several decades that the trio have mashed up and re-worked into this fine LP. Some of the legendary artists featured are, The Who, Eric Clapton, Beastie Boys, INXS, AC/DC, Pink Floyd and Queen. Also, two friends of BlagSound feature on it, Alex Metric and Hot Pink Delorean.

Despite the lengths Lance has gone to in selecting a broad cross-section of big name artists to re-rub, this record doesn’t have to feel of a remix album. The production and themes running through the album are constant and salient, lending its own definitive identity and feel. In short, Lance Herbstrong has succeeded where so many have failed – he has created a cross-genre mashup album that has the artistic and creative merit to stand as a body of work in its own right. Ans it’s a belter – listen to this record, you will lose your shit and your teeth simultaneously.  A change of underwear and a trip to your dentist seems to be a pretty mandatory response.

If I’m forced to pick a favourite, I’d have to go for the re-rub of  Althea & Donna’s, Uptown Top Ranking, which you can hear below, but there is something on this album for everyone, whatever styles and genre’s of music you are into.
