With so many electronic production artists out there these days it’s sometimes hard to get hold of good new music when it’s still new. I’m talking about the real shit, not the nonsense you hear on the radio or get fed by your dickhead mate who spaffed his entire student loan at East End warehouse raves. I‚Äòm of the opinion it’s easy as long as you know where to look and the best place to look is always the labels.

With it being easier than ever before to get your music out to the masses via social networking and the web, talent doesn’t stay hidden long and record labels sign them up and make sure we are aware of their music. Over the coming months I’m gonna be telling you the labels which I swear by, giving you an insight into the background and sound these labels produce, showcasing to you a pick of the talent they all have to offer and giving you my top three songs the label has released. Don’t worry yourself though, you won’t catch me rimming EMI or Sony BMG anywhere here. I’ve been scouring the web for the best independent electronica/dance labels for you to feast your ears on. We start off with my personal favourite‚Ķ.ENJOY!

MAD DECENT

Diplo

Diplo

Run out of Philadelphia by Thomas Pentz aka Diplo (of Blackberry advert fame and one half of Major Lazer), this popular label has constantly been setting trends in the music world. With a huge and varied roster of artists, Mad Decent constantly find new talent and new sounds and get them sounds to our ear lugs quickly which makes them stand out from the rest. They do this mainly via their website (one of the best record label websites out there) which is regularly updated with new blogs, event announcements, upcoming releases and lots and lots of freebies you can download, which we at BlagSound LOVE! Along with their fantastic use of social networking they really do give their artists a great platform to shout out to the world.

Mad Decent also has one of the most varied stable of artists any record label has signed producing all sorts of different sounds from dubstep to dancehall, to reggae to ghetto house they really do have something for everyone. They also have a reputation for helping to introduce new and rare sounds like Brazilian baile funk and Angolan kuduro to clubs worldwide.

Leading the ear bashing bass attack for Mad Decent would be Major Lazer, made up by Diplo and UK producer Switch who met whilst working with M.I.A. They released album ‚ÄòGuns Don’t Kill People, Lazer’s Do‘ in 2009 to worldwide critical acclaim. The only single released off the album was ‚ÄòPon Di Floor‘ which has become one of the most recognisable tunes in clubs in every corner of the earth. If you haven’t heard it, then you’re obviously a moron and should be sent to Coventry.

In 2010, Mad Decent signed British dubstep superstar Rusko and they released his debut album ‚ÄòO.M.G‘ which included collaboration with fellow Mad Decent act, Crookers. This Italian electro duo from Milan regularly remix their Mad Decent stable mates and released their ‚ÄòIstola‘ E.P in 2008, which is a personal favourite.

My final pick of the artists on this label is Buraka Som Sistema, combining the Angolan kuduro sound with ghetto electronic bassness which combines to make one of the most original sounds you will hear in your lifetime.

All in all, this label has absolutely everything a lover of production could ever want from a record label. Now listen to my top three slammers below and check out the website links below. Keep it Blag!!
