Undoubtedly, the first thing that strikes you about The Savage Nomad’s new single ‘What the Angel Said’ is the sheer energetic rawness of it all. Jesus, this song packs a punch.

Our ears are immediately welcomed to an infectious little lick on an irresistibly gritty guitar. You just want more of it, like that bubbling adrenaline after you stumble shakily off the rollercoaster. Strong, shouty vocals compete over the guitars, almost ranting – at times repeating (‘the broken winter skyyy’), which works perfectly with the raw sound of this tune. And then comes the warm, soothing strumming of the pre-chorus break. For a few blissful seconds, we are led into a more mysterious mellower world, before being thrown back into the chorus. This lovely contrast of the calming break with the gritty bulk of the song is just perfection.

What makes the Nomad’s new tune even more of a gem is that it has that ability to grow on you the more you listen. Seriously, I have it on loop! This isn’t to say that I wasn’t impressed upon first listening, but it tends to be a promising sign when a song begs to be listened to on repeat like this, and The Savage Nomads are a very promising bunch indeed.
